Kelly A. Johnson

Kelly A. Johnson, Executive Director

Kelly brings a lifelong passion for the arts and a successful track record in nonprofit administration to her role as executive director. Prior to joining ABAE in 2018, Kelly was the development director at ShelterCare. She has a bachelor’s degree in theatre from the University of Colorado at Denver and a master’s degree in arts administration from the University of Oregon. When she’s not enjoying Eugene’s spectacular arts and culture scene, you can find Kelly curled up with a good book, taking a long walk around town, or cheering in the stands at a Ducks football game.

Dana Turell

Dana Turell, President

As president of Turell Group, Dana Turell brings to ABAE more than 20 years of marketing experience, well-honed instincts, and an unending passion for making a difference. In addition to being on the board of ABAE, Dana is board chair of Oregon Cancer Foundation, a board member of Travel Lane County and Angel Hair Foundation, and a CASA Leaders Forum member.

Brittany Quick-Warner

Brittany Quick-Warner, Vice President

Brittany Quick-Warner is president and CEO of the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, the region’s pre-eminent business support and advocacy organization with more than 1,200 members. Brittany has worked for the Eugene Chamber for nearly five years, having served previously as the organization’s director of business advocacy. A native of Missouri, Brittany moved to Eugene in 2012. She holds two degrees from the University of Missouri, a master’s degree in public administration with a focus in nonprofit management, and an undergraduate degree in soil, environmental, and atmospheric science. She is an active community member, serving as a board member of BRING Recycling, Better Eugene Springfield Transportation, the Junior League of Eugene, and the Eugene Sustainability Commission.

Dee Etzwiler

Dee Etzwiler, Secretary

Dee Etzwiler is a commercial artist and principal of her firm, a+a Studio, where she designs custom artwork for commercial and residential clients. Dee earned a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon. She has designed custom houses, consulted on planning studies for the State Capitol, and taught architecture design studios at the University of Oregon. Dee is an award-winning artist who received the Mayor’s Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award at the 2011 Eugene Mayor’s Art Show. Dee is also CEO of Marching in Their Footsteps, a company that offers products and online information intended to inspire, empower, and educate women and girls. Dee is a past board member of The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts and a past board president of the Eugene Education Foundation.

Kari Westlund

Kari Westlund, Treasurer

Kari began as President and CEO of Travel Lane County in 1996. She is a past chair of the Oregon Tourism Commission, state and regional destination marketing associations, and Oregon Track Club. Kari has chaired and/or served on department advisory committees for the City of Eugene Cultural Services, served on the Cultural Policy Review Committee, and is currently active on the Cultural Services Advisory Committee and the Lane Economic Committee.

Irene Alltucker

Irene Alltucker, Past President

Irene Alltucker is the director of real estate for Obie Companies. She has been involved in visual and performing arts since moving to Eugene in 1989. Irene is the founding executive director of Oregon Festival of American Music, established First Friday Art Walk with Fred Crafts, and is a former executive director of Relief Nursery. Irene is active in the community, formerly serving on the Eugene Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the Oregon Community Foundation Silva Endowment. Her current philanthropic efforts include serving as an advisory committee member for the Oregon Community Foundation Arts for Western Oregon.

John Barry

John Barry, Board Member

John Barry is co-founder and CEO of Porter, a Eugene-based technology company. He has more than 20 years of experience leading entrepreneurial projects across the corporate, nonprofit, academic, and government sectors. Prior to founding Porter, John served as the executive director of ABAE. Earlier in his career he was senior vice president of global government affairs and public policy at Visa Inc., senior economic advisor to the U.S. House of Representatives majority leader, and chairman, CEO, and president of America’s Future Foundation. John supports the Eugene community by serving on the Hult Endowment selection committee and as president of the Coburg Community Charter School board of directors.

JS Bird

JS Bird, Board Member

JS Bird received an MA from SUNY Oswego and an MFA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. JS has exhibited nationally for the past 25 years and participated in more than 100 group and solo exhibitions, including Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Jose, and many others. He has taught 2D studio art for more than 20 years; previously at several colleges and universities in the East. He is currently serving as interim dean at Lane Community College. JS also released his first novel, The Boy Who Painted Fire, which revolves around the transformational power of art and creativity.

Fred Crafts

Fred Crafts, Board Member

Fred Crafts is the City of Eugene’s Ambassador to the Arts. He has an extensive arts background. As a journalist, he worked as Fine Arts Editor of the Los Angeles Times, anchor for KNX NewsRadio in Los Angeles, and Arts Editor for The Register-Guard. As an artist, he founded Radio Redux, a heritage radio theater company. He can often be found emceeing arts events and giving arts speeches.

Alan Evans

Alan Evans, Board Member

Alan is the founder and president of Evans, Elder, Brown & Seubert Commercial Real Estate, the largest firm by market share in the metro area. He previously served as president of Eugene Opera, chair of the Arts Foundation of Western Oregon, and vice chair of the Oregon Bach Festival. He presently serves on the board of directors of Summit Bank.

Renee Grube

Renee Grube, Board Member

Renee Grube is the executive director of the City of Eugene Library, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. As the department’s executive director, Renee leads the City’s cultural services activities, including the operation of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts and Cuthbert Amphitheater, the Eugene Public Library, and the city’s recreation activities, including the operation of six community centers, three public swimming pools, and multiple community and cultural facilities. Renee is a board member of Travel Lane County and Eugene Cascades & Coast Sports Commission, and serves on the TrackTown USA steering committee.

Mitra Gruwell

Mitra Gruwell, Board Member

Mitra Gruwell is an upcycling fashion designer for St. Vincent de Paul society of Lane County, managing and designing the ENVIA fashion brand. She co-manages the ABAE’s Creative Academy seminar series.

Alex Haugland

Alex Haugland, Board Member

Alex Haugland is an active patron of the arts who is committed to community philanthropy. He also serves on the board for the Haugland Family Foundation, focused on serving the arts, education, and social wellbeing of Lane County and beyond, and on the board of the Richard P. Haugland Foundation, focused on education, healthcare, and child welfare overseas. He is also a past president of the Eugene Concert Choir board, as past board member of Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon. Aside from philanthropic activities, he is involved in real estate development and property management, with properties all around the state of Oregon.

Laura Illig, Board Member

Laura Illig is vice president of marketing for SELCO Community Credit Union as well as an independent marketing and strategy consultant. Laura has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing, branding, strategic planning, executive coaching, and organizational development. She is on the board of Equality PAC, the political action committee of Basic Rights Oregon as well as the Lane Arts Council, and has served as a previous board member for the Mother PAC, Parenting Now!, Committed Partners for Youth, the Oregon Pacific Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Laura was also the chair of the City of Eugene budget committee for three years, and a citizen committee member for six. In her free time, Laura enjoys painting and collage, primarily abstract works in acrylic and paper, as well as enjoying the offerings of Eugene’s many amazing arts organizations.

Sabrina Madison-Cannon

Sabrina Madison-Cannon, Board Member

Sabrina Madison-Cannon is the dean of the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance. Prior to her current position, Madison-Cannon served as the associate dean of academic and faculty Affairs and a professor of dance in the Conservatory of Music and Dance at University of Missouri-Kansas City. Madison-Cannon received her professional training as a scholarship student at the National Academy of Arts and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She has performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) where she worked with top choreographers. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in dance from the University of Iowa and a certification in Pilates from Stott Conditioning in Toronto, Canada.

Jeremy Schropp

Jeremy Schropp, Board Member

Jeremy Schropp is a music composer, conductor, and performer who combines traditional acoustic elements with emerging technologies and compositional practice. During his career, Jeremy has presented compositional work internationally and collaborated with numerous contemporary musical artists, including RJD2, Quixotic, Odjbox, Beats Antique, Medium Troy, and TroyBoi. He is co-founder of Harmonic Laboratory, a collective of artists, thinkers, educators, and innovators who together investigate the human experience through the integration of media and common theme. Jeremy also serves as the conductor and arranger for the Bohemian Dub Orchestra, a collaborative classical ensemble based out of Eugene, and as chairman of the board for the nonprofit organization Integrated Arts. Jeremy received his PhD in music composition and theory and master’s in intermedia music technology from the University of Oregon.

Jon Texter, Board Member

Jon Texter is a ceramics artist and president of Essex General Construction, a commercial general contractor headquartered in Eugene with projects throughout western Oregon and southwest Washington. Essex develops partnerships as strong and sturdy as the buildings they construct. Jon and Essex have been long-time supporters of the arts in Eugene. This includes partnerships with The Very Little Theatre, The John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts, The Eugene Ballet, Orchestra Next, Lane Arts Council, OSLP’s Arts & Culture Program, and local musicians, among many others. When he’s not leading Essex, or creating and supporting the arts, Jon enjoys sailing and traveling the world.

Kelly A. Johnson

Kelly is the Executive Director for the Arts and Business Alliance of Eugene. She has worked in the non profit sector since 2011. Previously she was Development Director at ShelterCare. She moved to the lush Willamette Valley from the great heights of Colorado. She has a bachelors degree in Theatre from the University of Colorado at Denver and a masters degree in Arts Administration from the University of Oregon. Besides the enjoying the specular arts and culture scene in Eugene, she enjoys reading a good book, taking a long walk and watching an exciting football game. Kelly serves on the board of directors for the Oregon Mozart Players.
