Collaboration between local arts and business is the core of everything ABAE does. That is why we developed the Arts and Business Partnership Award, which honors those in the local arts and business sectors that are successfully banding together to contribute to the quality of life in Eugene, drive economic development, stimulate creativity and innovation and strengthen the ability of local businesses to recruit and retain a diverse group of individuals who will bring exceptional skills to the community.
Sometimes a single company and a single non-profit organization—such as 2016 award winners Imagination International Inc. and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum—find common cause and complementary assets that brought together benefit the community. Such partnerships may start with a single event or idea but often develop into a multi-year relationship that continues to enrich both partners and additional audiences.
Other times—as with 2016 award winners Artsdigital and Threadbare Print House—two creative-based commercial companies come together and find a unique outlet for the artistic expression inherent in their work. At their best, such partnerships draw in other members of the community to the artistic process and benefit a worthy cause.
Finally, some businesses—such as 2016 recipient St. Vincent de Paul’s Society—find it is not enough to simply partner with an artist or arts organization. What is needed is a much more embedded artistic influence that can only be realized by hiring an artist to contribute his/her artistic skills on a daily basis.
There is no right way to partner. But there are common benefits to all successful arts and business partnerships including increased revenues, heightened employee morale, more artistic outlet and a higher quality of life for the community as a whole.
Past Arts and Business Partnership awardees—and dozens of other businesses and artists just like them—find innovative and dynamic ways to strengthen, enrich and celebrate our entire community. It is for them that ABAE exists.
